Rethinking
Evolution and Rejecting it!
I was very dismayed with the front-page article in the Star-Telegram, "Rethinking
Evolution" (July 11). In fact, I was shocked and dismayed
with the amazing arrogance and dishonesty expressed in the
account.
According to the author, John Wilford, certain French scientists
have found a fossilized skull, jaw, and teeth which they
think represent an extinct member of the "hominid" family
that may represent an ancestor of modern humans. The arrogant
dishonesty of the article is appalling. Wilford states, as
though it were an established fact, that this creature lived
about 7 million years ago. He is convinced that it clearly
establishes evolution. In fact, he doesn’t even question
the theory of evolution nor does he question the speculative
date involving millions of years!
As a matter of fact, many reputable, trained and honest
scientists of all disciplines reject the evolutionary theory
and are convinced that God created all things in the beginning—a
beginning that may be dated rather recently, from 6,000 to
10,000 years ago. They are convinced that a worldwide flood
at the time of the Biblical Noah had catastrophic effects
upon the earth and this may account for many fossils on the
earth, as well as the existence of coal beds and oil reservoirs.
Institute for Creation Research in El Cajon, CA (www.icr.org)
and Answers in Genesis (www.answersingenesis.org)
offer numerous, in-depth studies establishing these facts.
Consistent Christians would agree with these "creation" scientists.
We base our beliefs on the Bible, the Word of God, and find
that these are entirely in harmony with established facts of
science, including paleontology. Apart from its pathetic
speculation, why does the Biblical Christian reject the implications
of Wilford’s article? The Bible says that God created all
things (Acts 17:24) in six literal days (Exodus 20:11) only
thousands of years ago (Genesis 1:1-31). Both the Lord Jesus
Christ and Paul believed and taught that Adam and Eve were
the first created human beings (Matthew 19:4-6; 1 Timothy
2:13-14; Romans 5:12-14; 1 Corinthians 11:8-12; 2 Corinthians
11:3). Jesus Christ said that the first human beings, Adam
and Eve, were created at "the beginning of creation" (Mark
10:6)—not 15 billion years later! The reality of sin is based
on the historicity of God’s creation of Adam and Eve, thus
forgiveness of sin through Christ’s death on the cross is
undermined by the false theory of evolution, including the
irresponsible speculations found in Wilford’s article.
I challenge the readers of the Star-Telegram not to be deceived
by the pseudo-science displayed so deceptively in the article, "Rethinking
Evolution." I would call upon them to really "rethink" evolution
and reject it as an empty, bankrupt, and disproved theory
that displaces God as Creator of all things.
